FilterPrecursors is a tool for identifying potential pre-miRNAs based on the analysis of the alignment of high-throughput sequencing reads to candidate precursors sequences. Given the output of an alignment tool, our algorithm extracts and analyses properties from the alignment profile in order to filter candidate sequences that meet some requirements defined in accordance with the biogenesis of miRNAs.
