ArgoUML is a popular open source UML modeling tool that includes support for all standard UML 1.4 diagrams. It runs on any Java platform and is available in ten languages.
Code generation and reverse engineering is provided for various programming languages. A plugin architecture allows this as well as other features of the product to be extended by developers outside of the core development team.
Work is in progress in many areas of the project including upgrade to UML2.x and migration to the Eclipse RCP Framework.
