The Tampere Bilingual Corpus contains about 1.8 million words and consists of both English texts together with their Finnish translations and Finnish texts with their English translations.The corpus is fully aligned and has a fixed format. Searches are carried out either on the first or third lines, but the output consists of all four lines.
The corpus data is stored in MS Dos (generic) text-file format using basic ASCII characters, and searches are currently carried out using programs written in the Snobol4 programming language. What is needed, therefore, is a modern, user-friendly and versatile search-engine.
