ProtSeqFetch is software for generating custom databases of primary protein sequences. The program downloads protein sequences at the genera level directly from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) or extracts them from a local copy of the NCBI nr (“non-redundant”) database. A non-redundant FASTA-formatted flatfile database of protein sequences is produced. Information about redundant sequences is made available to the user for further reference. A spell-check function is used to validate organism names submitted by the user.
