Introduction
As biologists’ need for computing grow, more time is required to learn to use the terminal and master command lines. ETA (Easy Terminal Alternative) is designed to take the terminal out of this process, making it easier for researchers to run programs locally or on a cloud of computers, create pipelines, and manage the execution of programs.
ETA is easily deployable with only one dependency, MYSQL, and once deployed it can be accessed anywhere in the world with a web browser. Users can then create custom wrappers to command line programs and run on the cloud using SGE (Sun Grid Engine). Once run, one can easily monitor and control the executed jobs. Users may also take created wrappers and tie them together with drag and drop actions and monitor each step in the pipeline. ETA also offers a centralized, searchable repository of user submitted wrappers for future use and development.
