The algorithm uses a spin-glass module detection method to identify modules associated with a phenotype of interest within a large-scale network. The name "EpiMod" derives from the application to Epigenetics, specifically the integration of DNA methylation data with protein interaction networks to identify differential methylation interactome hotspots.
