The goal is to make a freely distributed motion capture software so students and independent artists with low-end (no) budgets can experiment with motion capture.
This project will extend the AForge.NET framework to detect a sequence of ping-pong balls, track the x, y, and scale, and save out text files of the motion. An additional application will parse the text files into a BVH file for use in 3D animation.
With the exception of one software and equipment that is $5,000 for a set-up, the average cost for motion capture is $30-$80K.
While the system being purposed in this scope may not be able to compete with such higher end systems, this system should be able to give students and independent artists the basics for capturing gestures and simple motions.
