Our project will consist of bridging an open source media player with an open source music database. The feature we would like to implement to bridge these two ends of software will be through dynamic mp3 tagging. Essentially most popularized media players do not have a way to edit a track title and/or artist and receive streamed list of possible data matches to fill the ID3 data of the mp3 track. SongBird, slated to be the Mozilla of iTunes, is an up and coming media player that is completely open source and will allows us to make extensions to the program such as dynamic mp3 tagging unhindered. The second component will be bridging this offline software with the open source music metadatabase, MusicBrainz, which allows users to freely edit or add entries to the MusicBrainz database.
